On Saturday, June 30, members of the parent team, Padres Activos de Nixon/The Active Parents of Nixon, helped gather 200 community volunteers and built a new playground at Nixon Elementary School in the Hermosa community!

Parent leaders started this campaign 2 years ago, when they expressed concerns about the previous playground being unsafe for their children. They spoke with Nixon community members, their Alderman, and others, advocating for and ultimately raising enough funds to build the new playground. With the support of KaBoom!, Forester’s Financial, Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Community Trust, and the Hermosa Neighborhood Association the dream of Nixon parents became a reality!
