Local organizing is a cornerstone of the COFI Way
In communities throughout Chicago, across Illinois and beyond, parents are gaining more skills, becoming more experienced and recognized leaders and working together to give children and families a better shot at making it.
Neighborhood organizing is built into the first phases of COFI parent training. Parents work as a team to identify community strengths and needs and to bring more families together and more resources to the community. More than 3000 parents have been trained by COFI and, today, more than 25 Parent Action Teams in Illinois are organizing around concerns in their schools and neighborhoods.
Victories include new school playgrounds, Peace Centers in schools, walking clubs, resources for after-school programs, early learning peer outreach efforts, changes in how services and programs serve families and many more.
